The Right Thing — The Wrong Way

Expansion: Hingashi: 5/8
Expansion: Thavnair: 5/8
Expansion: Yok Tural: 0/8Clan Goals are the long-term projects that Clan Volante is currently working towards—or, the long-term problems they're trying to avoid. Progress in a Goal ticks up or down depending on the Clan's activities.
Aldenard: 2.0 / 4.0
Othard: (No presence)
Ilsabard: (No presence)
Tural: (No presence)Heat is the amount of unwanted attention Clan Volante gets from their activities. It is tracked separately in Aldenard, Othard, Ilsabard, and Tural. If the Clan gets 10 Heat in one of these areas, they get a Wanted level there, and the law and their rivals may start causing trouble for them.
Clan Volante can only effectively work in regions where it has established itself, and secured the means to travel there. Trying to do a job outside of this range comes with complications. The Clan's operational range can be expanded through Clan Goals. However, if they're not vigilant, some regions may become overtaken by rivals, or blocked by some new situation.Key: Secured, Investigating, Ready to Claim, Threatened, Blocked, Unavailable

Newspaper excerpts from the Harbour Herald, the Mythril Eye, and The Raven related to Clan Volante's past exploits can be found here. The truth of the matter, however, remains a mystery to the press...
COUNTERFEIT SMUGGLER BUSTED
Harbour Herald, 6th 4A 13 7AEALEPORT — Berkund, an alleged smuggler from Aerslant, was caught in a Yellowjacket raid attempting to bring millions in counterfeit gil into Eorzea. His ship had been badly damaged by his drunkenly carousing crew, while he was absent in Limsa Lominsa for reasons unknown.Berkund's shipping manifest differed greatly from the cargo present in the hold, mislabelling the counterfeit gil as "crystals" and missing several stated items such as unrefined auracite and black mythril. An accomplice who allegedly fled the ship was later delivered to Yellowjacket custody, and is reported to be cooperating with authorities.Investigation is ongoing into an impromptu Masked Carnivale performance that took place in the center of town the same night, which caused some mild civil disorder.
RED CHOCOBO DESTROYS HUNTING CAMP
The Raven, 25th 4U 13 7AETAILFEATHER — The tranquility of Dravania's forests has been brutally demolished by death from above! A red chocobo, native to distant Dalmasca, is running free through the Chocobo Forest around Tailfeather, wreaking havoc as it goes. A hunting camp was wiped out by the fiend, causing Ishgard to raise an official investigation into the local wild chocobo population. The destroyed camp was led by Orleant Blackbow, who was taken into custody by the hunters of Tailfeather for alleged smuggling, poaching, and illegal hunting practices. Sources claim that Blackbow's band were hunting nesting chocobos, and baiting bandersnatches to destroy nests with eggs. Blackbow could not be reached for comment.Recent evidence published in Ul'dah alleges that Blackbow was smuggling chocobos for use in chocobo racing hosted by the Gold Saucer.
LUXURY SKYSHIP RAIDED, TECH STOLEN
Mythril Eye, 21st 5A 13 7AESEA OF CLOUDS — The Cheval Blanche, a luxury skyship, was raided by sky pirates in the Sea of Clouds. The ship was hosting a "Gala of Technological Progress", exhibiting such wonders as an Allagan node, a custom airship engine, an "exotablet" used in Sharlayan expeditions, and a block of the exceedingly rare metal electrope. The sky pirates boarded, seizing captives and the technological loot. While a handful of passengers were injured, no casualties occurred, and all captives were returned unharmed. The items stolen remain missing, with Temple Knights welcoming any potential leads.Tiphionne Alverais, the primary backer of the Cheval Blanche's construction and host of the Gala, expressed sincere gratitude for adventurers who managed to rescue her from the sky pirates, but refused to identify such saviors.

When innocent lives are threatened, you can expect the Adventurers' Guild to send four to eight brave souls to solve the problem by diving into a cavern, killing everything that moves, and taking whatever isn't nailed down. But not all monsters dwell in dungeons and lairs, waiting to be slain with impunity. For some "monsters", adventurers are not going to be able to get the job done.Clan Volante is in the business of providing second chances, helping those unable to help themselves, and taking down those who believe they are beyond reproach. To do so, however, they outplay their marks at their own game: lying, cheating, and stealing better than those who lie, cheat, and steal. Sometimes, bad guys make the best good guys. When the wealthy exploit the innocent for their own ends, Volante secures fair compensation. When the law fails to protect those it is meant to serve, Volante picks up where it leaves off. And when someone believes they are invincible by virtue of society's norms, Volante shows them just how wrong they are.We are the phoenix down for the dying man, the gilded chain to bind the avaricious, the wing spread wide to seize the moment. We are the Warden's hand to balance the Traders' scales. We do the right thing—the wrong way.
Clan Volante is a good-aligned, but not particularly lawful, Free Company, a band of vigilantes, scoundrels, and misfits who work to make the world a better place. We do that mainly by beating the bad guys at their own game, scheming against and stealing from those who scheme against and steal from others. We are not a criminal organization or a "grey-morality" FC: our crimes are committed purely in the pursuit of justice, and our moral stance is very much benevolent. Our main storyline, the Clan Story Quest (CSQ), focuses around completing jobs for clients, often with the goal of doing some justice in the world outside the law. When clients are unable to pay for the Clan's services, its members are compensated through alternative revenue streams (read as: stealing stuff from bad guys).Outside of the CSQ, Clan Volante also encourages members to run Personal Stories of their own, calling upon their clanmates to use their skills to win the day. So long as the core mission of the Clan is followed, we welcome you to tell your story with us.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Below are some different things that we draw inspiration from.
– Films: The Sting, Ocean's Eleven
– Shows: Leverage/Leverage Redemption
– Games: Sly 2 Band of Thieves/Sly 3 Honor Among Thieves
– Tabletop: Blades in the Dark
– All members must be at least 18 years old.– Treat everyone with respect. We have a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination and bigotry of any kind.– Observe and respect user pronouns. This is a safe and welcoming space for all identities.– Presume good faith in disagreements. Ask for clarification or mediation when necessary.– The willful use of generative AI of any kind is not tolerated. This includes images, videos, music, text, or any other medium generated by AI.
– People are not their characters. Do not conflate IC words and actions with OOC.– RP with consideration. "Yes And" has limits, so practice OOC communication, consent, and aftercare.– Share the space. Accept the outcomes and consequences of your character's actions. God-modding and meta-gaming are not tolerated.– You are responsible for fitting your character into a scene. Consider the motivations and desires of both your character and others', and avoid character concepts that disrupt the FC's premise, such as amoral or villainous characters.– Maintain lore-plausibility and immersion (see the guidelines below). If you use third-party assets to alter your character's appearance, any part of that appearance vital to the character must be able to be represented in-game and visible to those without third-party assets.
We follow a general guideline of staying "Lore-Plausible" in our roleplay. In other words, if you can point to something in lore to support a concept, then it can fly with us. We're willing to bend things a little to enable a greater variety of characters and stories, and welcome creative ways to use the existing setting. Invented concepts without a solid lore basis are more difficult for us to incorporate into our story.
There are some exceptions to this guideline that we do not recognize in our space, for the sake of immersion and general lore compliance:- Warriors of Light
- White Mages
- Connections with major NPCs

Do you play a character working with law enforcement, or whose quest is to chase down law-breakers? Are you part of a criminal organization that doesn't like having upstart do-gooders as competition? Consider becoming a rival faction for our Clan Story Quest! If you want to play as a rival faction, please keep in mind:
– OOC communication is key. No matter how much IC intrigue occurs, be open OOC with what you intend to do.
– The Wanted level determines how strong or severely a rival faction acts; do not act disproportionately.
– Permanent or extreme consequences or injury is not permitted. Character death is right out.
– We run our events with our own Forged in the Dark dice system. Anyone joining in on CSQ events will be using the same system.
